The Committee of Seventy was established in 1904 to combat corruption in Philadelphia, playing a major role in the adoption of civil service reforms and the passage of the 1919 and 1951 Home Rule Charters. A nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, Seventy does not endorse candidates or represent any special interests.

This year’s program will feature a conversation with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat and Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Al Schmidt, on the theme: "The State We’re In: An Honest Reckoning with American Politics." The evening will provide a thoughtful and substantive dialogue on the challenges facing American democracy today—one that transcends partisan divides and invites honest reflection on the path forward.
