The Committee of Seventy is deeply concerned about the PA Senate's approval of two controversial amendments to the state Constitution.

The 17-member Philadelphia City Council has a major role in the everyday lives of city residents. With Council districts being redrawn, now is the time to ensure residents can engage directly in the map-making process.

To help student understand the underlying nature of difficult conversations, and to give them tools to turn difficult conversations into productive ones, and even into opportunities for learning.

Get ready to vote yourself. First, you have to register. (30 minutes)

Students will learn how to apply for a mail-in ballot. Eligible students will be able to send their applications in, while students who are not, or are choosing to vote in person, will complete the process to without submitting an application to gain the experience.

In the previous lesson, students completed a real or hypothetical mail-in ballot application. In this lesson, they will learn how to complete and return their mail-in ballot, as well as how to find their polling place and to cast their ballot in person. They will also learn how to cast a provisional ballot as a last resort. It’s important to walk students through these processes.

PA Civics, a statewide network formed in 2019 to strengthen and expand civic education in Pennsylvania, officially welcomed the News Literacy Project and Carpenters’ Hall as the 24th and 25th members of the coalition during its quarterly meeting on July 10. The News Literacy Project, the nation’s largest provider of news literacy education, and Carpenters’ Hall, the site of the First Continental Congress in 1774, join a growing list of partners that includes the Association of Former Members of Congress, the National Constitution Center, the Heinz History Center, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce and The Committee of Seventy.
