STAR cards (Students Thinking and Acting Responsibly) provide students with discussion prompts on basic civic knowledge, practice with civil dialogue, and ways to be engaged community members. The cards empower students to share and deliberate different points of view on subjects relatable to them.
The 2024 Presidential Election is a great time for young people to put these skills to use while learning about our history, our political process, and the importance of voting. So C70 has created a special set of Presidential Election STAR Cards.
These 36 cards each ask one thought-provoking question to students. They are designed to provide information and have students share their points of view. The cards do not have right or wrong answers, a characteristic that allows all students to feel safe participating in discussions.
STAR Cards are perfect in a morning meeting, a writing assignment, and more. They support engaged civic learning where all students feel safe to participate.
Starting the week after Labor Day, C70 will send four cards per week for nine weeks in the lead-up to Election Day. These cards are free. We will also send suggestions for how to best use these cards in your class.
Thanks to the LWV of Philadelphia, the cards have also been translated to Spanish and Simplified Chinese. When you sign up, you can access these translations as well.
