Using the power of youth voice and connection, #VoteThatJawn is a social media effort to bring 18-year-olds and other first-time voters to the polls—beginning a process toward a lifetime of civic engagement. Vote That Jawn amplifies youth voice and advocates for youth safety, agency, and inclusion.
Vote That Jawn is now working with the Committee of Seventy, Pennsylvania’s oldest and largest nonpartisan, good-government nonprofit. Together, we are seeking a fellow who can:
Plan and execute Jawn initiatives online and in-person to bring even more fresh voters to the polls, across divides of race, class, and high-school/college;
Write, collect, and share quality, multi-media online content for youth with an eye toward using the campaign as an opportunity to help youth write better and read with greater nuance about citizenship and current issues;
Grow the Jawn community.
We expect to deepen youth voter engagement here in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. And because youth social media reaches across the country, so does #VoteThatJawn.
Connect with similarly committed youth, activists, and elected officials to spread Jawn’s message.
Create perfect-pitch communication on many platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook) to support registration and voting;
Attend and produce content from events run by C70 and Vote That Jawn;
Cultivate a strong, commanding video presence;
Raise public awareness for the franchise of young voters.
It is the Committee of Seventy’s view that government and politics work when everyone is empowered to participate, and that is how we strive to treat the people who work with us. C70 is committed to making diversity, equity, and inclusion a priority for our organization.
This is a paid position for approximately 15-20 hours/week. It is best done by a current or recently graduated college student. The fellow will be considered an independent contractor, not an employee, of the Committee of Seventy. The fellow would start in April, a month before the May 16th primary election, and would serve through the summer.
