This year’s program will feature a conversation with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat and Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Al Schmidt, on the theme: "The State We’re In: An Honest Reckoning with American Politics." The evening will provide a thoughtful and substantive dialogue on the challenges facing American democracy today—one that transcends partisan divides and invites honest reflection on the path forward.

Please join the Committee of Seventy for the second annual Women in Public Leadership Event. The event will feature a timely and important conversation on the media's vital role in a democracy. C70 will also honor renowned civic leader, Sharmain Matlock-Turner, CEO of the Urban Affairs Coalition, for her tireless work advancing social and economic justice, promoting voter engagement, and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. The Democracy Agenda for Philadelphia outlines the actions needed by our next mayor and City Council to ensure a more representative and ethical city government—a more democratic city government responsive to voters, that protects the public interest, and that engages communities on key decisions shaping their future.

Philadelphia, Pa. – Philadelphia 3.0, the Committee of Seventy and several candidates for elected office today filed a lawsuit asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to direct the President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas to replace Philadelphia’s City Commissioners with interim election officials for the May 2017 primary. The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys from the Public Interest Law Center and private counsel.

The Committee of Seventy, with support from the William Penn Foundation, hosted a series of briefings beginning in the fall of 2023 to help manage upcoming transitions into office for the Mayor and City Council. In an effort to share insights from the briefings with the public, Seventy released several columns on the sessions written by Dave Davies.

Two Democratic candidates, incumbent Pam DeLissio and Tarik Khan, are running for the State Representative seat. Robinson of the League of Women Voters of Philadelphia, and co-presented by the Committee of Seventy and FairDistrictsPA. This event is FREE and will end between 8:00pm and 8:15pm.
