The Committee of Seventy’s third annual Women in Public Leadership event took place on May 15, 2024.
The event featured a panel discussion with Reverend Bonnie Camarda, Director of Partnerships, The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware; Paige G. Cognetti, Mayor of Scranton, Pennsylvania; Leslie S. Richards, CEO and General Manager, SEPTA; Katherine Gilmore Richardson, Philadelphia City Council Majority Leader; and Jennifer C. Selber, General Counsel of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The discussion was moderated by Marty Moss-Coane, Host and Executive Producer of WHYY-FM’s The Connection, and focused on the challenges and opportunities women face when leading in the nonprofit and public sectors. It highlighted the importance of women taking on leadership roles at all levels and how organizations benefit from women at the helm.
The event also honored longtime Committee of Seventy Board Member Leslie Anne Miller with the Civic Leadership Award for her support of C70 and her service to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and beyond. With this award, C70 recognized Leslie’s impact, both through her professional accomplishments and her passionate support of the arts. The award was presented by Mayor Cherelle Parker, a devoted public servant and Philadelphia’s first woman mayor.
C70 would like to extend a special thank you to the event’s sponsors, Laura LaRosa, the University of Pennsylvania Health System, John Chou and Teresa Wallace, and the Fitler Club for making the event an incredible success. The full list of sponsors can be found here.
