The Committee of Seventy was established in 1904 to combat corruption in Philadelphia, playing a major role in the adoption of civil service reforms and the passage of the 1919 and 1951 Home Rule Charters. A nonprofit and nonpartisan organization, Seventy does not endorse candidates or represent any special interests.

2025 Women in Public Leadership Event

Please join the Committee of Seventy for our fourth annual Women in Public Leadership Event. This event celebrates women leading at all levels, recognizing their achievements and challenges while creating a space for connection, collaboration, and shared learning.

Celebrating local government with the Girl Scouts

On May 9th, Philly-area Girl Scouts will have a Bridging Ceremony and will be earning their badge in democracy. Philly City Councilmember Kendra Brooks will attend to talk with scouts about the value of participating in local government.

Spring 2025 District Attorney Candidate Forum

On Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 7:00 PM, the Committee of Seventy, along with WHYY News, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and other civic partners, is hosting an in-person forum between the two Democratic candidates for Philadelphia District Attorney: incumbent District Attorney Larry Krasner and former Municipal Court Judge Pat Dugan. The conversation will be moderated by Carmen Russell-Sluchansky, legal analyst and journalist, and Cherri Gregg, civil rights attorney and award-winning journalist.
