What is one life experience you have that voters should know about?
At the young age of 19, I became the CFO of Kuharchik Construction, my family's electrical contracting business. This was right after the housing market crash of 2008 which put serious financial strain on our company. It was not easy, but we scratched and clawed our way out of it. Since then, our company has tripled in size from 50 employees to 150 employees across Pennsylvania, providing our workers with good family-sustaining wages. In the end, it made our business stronger and it gave me a great perspective on what entrepreneurs across the country go through to achieve the American Dream. I want to make that dream attainable for every American regardless of the situation they were born into.
What sets you apart from other candidates?
I’ve never run for political office before, but am running because I see our federal government consumed by partisan bickering that has put us at a crossroads. I’m a third-generation union contractor who spends every free moment giving back to my community through multiple boards, charities, and mentorship. I was born in NEPA, raised here, never left and plan to never leave. This region is my home.
How do you plan to work across ideological lines to achieve shared goals?
There is too much partisan gridlock in Washington, D.C., and I plan to build relationships with people in both political parties to find common ground and put an end to the partisan bickering. I will also join the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus on my first day in office to build consensus with Democrats and Republicans to pass bills that benefit the American people.
What would be your top three policy priorities in office?
First, we must ensure that our border is secure. I visited the southern border in Yuma, Arizona back in May and it is a humanitarian crisis. We do this by finishing the wall and ensuring our border patrol agents have the resources they need to stop the flow of deadly drugs and apprehending violent criminals before they enter our country. Next, we need an economy that works. Pennsylvanians are financially hurting. I will fight to create family sustaining wages, invest in infrastructure, and promote policies that foster economic growth. Lastly, we need communities that are safe. We must support our law enforcement officers who keep us safe everyday and make sure they have the resources and support they need to carry out their duties effectively.
The Committee of Seventy has partnered with the Carter Center to promote the Candidate Principles for Trusted Elections (www.principledcandidates.org) to improve the voting process, encourage honest leadership, and promote civic engagement. Do you support the Candidate Principles?
Yes.
