Deadline to register to vote before the Presidential Primary Election

March 18

Deadline for uniformed service members and citizens living outside the United States to register to vote before the Presidential Primary election.

 

March 20-March 30 (excluding March 29)

Early Voting for the April 2, 2024 Presidential Primary Election offered at designated Early Voting Sites in each county. Please call the Department of State (302-739-4277) or check the Department’s website (https://elections.delaware.gov) for locations of Early Voting Sites in each county.

Polls will be open from 11am-7pm from March 20-24, and from 7am-7pm from March 25-28 and on March 30.

Polls will be closed on March 29 due to the state and federal observance of Good Friday.

March 28

Deadline for the Department of Elections County Offices to mail absentee ballots for the April 2, 2024 Presidential Primary Election.

(Good Friday, March 29, 2024, is a State and Federal Holiday with no postal delivery. Therefore, the last day the Department may mail absentee ballots is the business day preceding the postal holiday.)

April 1

Deadline for the Department of Elections County Offices to issue absentee ballots for the Presidential Primary Election.

April 2

Presidential Primary Election Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Only registered voters from participating parties may vote. Voters who were automatically registered to vote at DMV by the Presidential Primary Election Voter Registration Deadline of March 9, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. and have their party listed on their voter registration as No Party-AVR may change their political party affiliation at the polling place in order to vote in their party’s Presidential Primary Election. If these voters do not change their political party affiliation by this date, this affiliation will become “No Party”, and these voters may then change this affiliation during permitted party affiliation change periods.

April 2

8pm - Deadline for voters to return voted absentee ballots for the April 2, 2024 Presidential Primary Election to the Department of Elections County Office of the county in which the voter resides.

May 10

Deadline for the Department of Elections Offices to mail absentee ballots for School Board Elections.

May 13

By noon - deadline for the Department of Elections Offices to issue absentee ballots for School Board Elections.

May 14

School Board elections - polls open from 7am-8pm. Voters must return absentee ballots to the Department of Elections county office by 8pm. 

August 17

Deadline to register to vote before the State Primary election.

August 26

Deadline for uniformed service members and citizens living outside the United States to register to vote before the State Primary election.

August 28-September 8 (excluding September 1 and 2)

Early Voting Period for the State Primary Election begins. Early Voting for the September 10, 2024 State Primary Election offered at designated Early Voting Sites in each county. Please call the Department (302-739-4277) or check the Department’s website (https://elections.delaware.gov) for locations of Early Voting Sites in each county.

September 10

State Primary Election Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Only registered voters from participating parties may vote. Voters who were automatically registered to vote at DMV by the State Primary Election Voter Registration Deadline of August 17, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. and have their party listed on their voter registration as No Party-AVR may change their political party affiliation at the polling place in order to vote in their party’s State Primary Election.

Absentee ballots must be returned by 8pm to the County Election Office in which the voter resides.

Deadline to register to vote in the General Election.

October 21

October 25-November 3

Early Voting Period for 2024 General Election begins. Early Voting for the November 5, 2024 General Election offered at designated Early Voting Sites in each county. Deadline for the Department of Elections Offices to mail absentee ballots for the General Election.

November 4

Noon - deadline for Department of Elections Offices to issue absentee ballots for the General Election.

November 5

2024 General Election - polls open from 7am-8pm. Voters must return voted absentee ballots to the Department of Elections office in their respective counties by 8pm.
