David Bates is a Senior Manager on Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship team, where he supports the team’s Data, Operations, and Controls function. He has previously held roles within the Retail Investor and Financial Advisor Services groups.
Prior to joining Vanguard, David served in the United States Marine Corps. Trained first as a Logistics Officer, he was later selected and trained as a Special Operations Officer. He completed deployments to Central Command, Africa Command, and Indo-Pacific Command areas of operation. He continues to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves.
David remains active in helping veterans and their spouses successfully transition from active duty, serving as a volunteer with American Corporate Partners and Hire Heroes USA.
David earned a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from the US Naval Academy, an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and an MPA from the JFK School of Government at Harvard University.
