What is one life experience you have that voters should know about?
I am a combat veteran and former Apache helicopter pilot. I was lucky to be accepted to the United States Military Academy (West Point), and so I joined the U.S. Army at 17 upon high school graduation. After graduating from West Point, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant within the U.S. Army Aviation branch. My first duty station was Fort Rucker (now Fort Novosel), Alabama, where I attended flight school and trained to become an AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter pilot. I graduated in January 2012 as the only woman in my Apache class. I served as a platoon leader and ultimately as a commander after my promotion to Captain, and deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, and South Korea. My experiences in the Army shaped my understanding of the nuances of foreign policy and leadership. I defended our freedoms abroad and look forward to defending them at home as a member of Congress.
What sets you apart from other candidates?
I am the only pro-choice candidate in this race. While my Republican opponent in PA-01 supports a national abortion ban, I strongly believe people should have the freedom to make their own, individual choices about their reproductive healthcare, and will fight for that freedom in Congress.
How do you plan to work across ideological lines to achieve shared goals?
In the Army, I worked with soldiers regardless of background or political affiliation. I understand what it’s like to work together to achieve a common mission and set aside differences to do so. I am committed to working with willing partners, regardless of party, to increase access to affordable healthcare, protect reproductive rights, and improve the quality of life for the hardworking people of PA-01.
What would be your top three policy priorities in office?
Protecting reproductive rights, protecting democracy, and building a better, fairer economy for hardworking folks.
