For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 10, 2024 | Contact: Genevieve Greene, ggreene@seventy.org, 617-785-6991

Philadelphia, PA - Committee of Seventy President and CEO Lauren Cristella released the following statement regarding the appointment of City Commissioner Omar Sabir as Chairperson and Stephanie Reid as Director of Election Administration for the Philadelphia City Commissioners:

“As we prepare for the 2024 election, Philadelphians need to feel confident in our city’s ability to administer free, fair, safe and secure elections.  All three of the City Commissioners have made meaningful contributions to this effort and have the necessary experience to ensure that our residents' voices will be heard come Election Day.  On behalf of the Committee of Seventy, I would like to congratulate Commissioner Sabir on this appointment as Chair and thank Commissioner Deeley for her previous service in that role.

Additionally, I am encouraged by the appointment of Stephanie Reid to the role of Director of Election Administration for the Philadelphia City Commissioners. The Committee of Seventy supports the Commissioner’s Office having a nonpartisan administrator that is committed to making Philadelphia election operations more efficient and effective. Stephanie has a proven track record of fighting for democracy in our city, having worked tirelessly in 2020 to create satellite election offices that were essential to administering that year’s elections.

We will remain vigilant in monitoring election-related developments and look forward to working with the Office of the City Commissioners on this upcoming election and beyond.”
