Committee of Seventy Congratulates Projected Winners of 2020 Election
Lauds Pennsylvania Officials for Conducting a Fair Election
The Committee of Seventy congratulates President-Elect Joseph R. Biden on winning the vote in Pennsylvania, and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris on her historic win as the first Black woman and first Asian American elected to be vice president.
As important, we congratulate every official, of both parties, who gained office in Pennsylvania this election, and the voters of Pennsylvania for exercising their sacred right to vote. We are deeply, deeply grateful for our tireless local election workers for their diligence, integrity, and civic spirit.
The Committee of Seventy has monitored elections in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania for 116 years. Each one has been a test of our democratic system, but this election has been the most fraught.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the expanded use of mail-in ballots, and baseless and unfounded claims of fraud, the people have made their voices heard. Through an imperfect, yet secure system, Philadelphia ran a transparent, thorough, and accurate electoral process, and is lawfully counting every vote.
Pennsylvania determined the next resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
