What is one life experience you have that voters should know about?

I am the proud mom of two young children. Raising them has helped me to become a more patient person and has underscored for me the importance of public education and of out of school time programming.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

I an the incumbent, running unopposed. Before holding this position I worked as a waitress and a public radio reporter. Those two jobs taught me a lot about interacting with others, about the struggles people face, and about the value of hearing different perspectives on an issue.

How do you plan to work across ideological lines to achieve shared goals?

I recently successfully passed a major piece of legislation, Solar for Schools, with strong bipartisan support in the state House and Senate. This was the result of an 18 month process. I have worked well across the aisle to get things done, while holding true to my values.

What would be your top three policy priorities in office?

Full and fair education funding, growing the renewables industry and energy efficiency, and enacting fair tax policies.

The Committee of Seventy has partnered with the Carter Center to promote the Candidate Principles for Trusted Elections (www.principledcandidates.org) to improve the voting process, encourage honest leadership, and promote civic engagement. Do you support the Candidate Principles?

Yes
