What is one life experience you have that voters should know about?
I became a US citizen after leaving Pakistan to escape religious persecution.
What would be your top three policy priorities in office?
1. Fiscal transparency with information about the city's finances readily available to the citizens in an understandable format so that they are able to clearly see how their tax money is being spent. 2. Working in conjunction with city agencies and departments to identify efficiencies and solutions designed to save tax payer money. 3. Ensuring that the city acts as a responsible steward, spending tax payer money honestly and wisely. I will vigorously work to identify and combat fraudulent activity and will hold officials of our public agencies accountable.
What sets you apart from other candidates?
I have an MBA from LaSalle University and worked as a Financial Accountant for the City of Philadelphia for 10 years. This experience has afforded me the opportunity to know and understand the fiscal workings of the city. Additionally, I have been, for many years, a visible leader in my community, assisting residents and getting things done. I will bring the same tenacity and leadership skills to the Philadelphia Controller's office.
How do you plan to work across ideological lines to achieve shared goals?
I am always striving to reach across party lines to find common ground and find solutions that will benefit the tax payers in Philadelphia. I will diligently work with anyone who is committed to improving the lives of the citizens of the city.
